Belle Coeur Sisterhood is a contemplative, spiritual, and creative community. We follow the way of Belle Coeur (the Beautiful Heart), a template of enrichment and nurturance for our spiritual and creative hearts.
An Overview of Belle Coeur Sisterhood
The Way of Belle Coeur: A Woman’s Vade Mecum, the companion guidebook for Sibyl’s novel, Ink and Honey, provides prayers, and spiritual and creative practices and provides wisdom from the Belle Coeur Sisterhood, a Christ-centered, contemplative, and spiritual/creative community. We follow the way of Belle Coeur, a wholistic cosmology consisting of four pathways: Spirit, Sacrament, Sisterhood, and Service. Four alchemical chambers of sacred practices nurture our creative hearts and spirits: Devotion, Craft, Study, and Story.
Our compass at the center (heart) of the way of Belle Coeur represents Jesus Christ, the Beloved. Our template is encircled by the spirit of Wisdom Sophia, the Sacred Feminine, representing all of Creation.
The contemplative, spiritual community, Sisters of Belle Coeur, was founded in 2013 by Sibyl Dana Reynolds, author of Ink and Honey. Sister Sibyl is a retired bishop of Roman Catholic Women Priests and a Spiritual Director. She founded the Sisters of Belle Coeur as a contemporary spiritual community inspired by the medieval women’s movement, the Beguines, and the Sisterhood of Belle Coeur depicted in her historical novel, Ink and Honey.
Belle Coeur sisters are single, married, and partnered. We are artists, writers, homemakers, clergy, beekeepers, and professionals. Belle Coeur is an ecumenical and inclusive community. Each woman is honored for her particular charism (her creative and spiritual gifts). We acknowledge and embrace our differences, respecting each woman as an individual and also a part of the whole.
A Sister of Belle Coeur is encouraged to “grow her wisdom” through the four sacred forms of practice. She is invited to create and keep a special journal known as her Belle Coeur Sacred Wisdom Codex, as a reliquary for all that inspires her creative heart and spirit.
Service and ministry are also important for Belle Coeur sisters. Each sister shares her charism to serve the greater good, according to her particular calling. She fosters beauty and hope in the world through her personal, creative, and spiritual forms of expression. Beauty is also expressed through our Belle Coeur sister’s, Kathie Hempels, beautiful Les Cadeaux de Belle Coeur offerings of honey, beeswax candles, and natural soaps.
One of ministries is our Belle Coeur Prayer Ministry, offered here in the Belle Coeur section of this website. Anyone who visits this site may request prayer using the special from on the Prayer Request page.
The Sister of Belle Coeur Formation Program
Each Way of Belle Coeur retreat has 9 participants. At the completion of the retreat the participants have the opportunity to become a Sister or Companion Sister of Belle Coeur. Each sisterhood circle is also invited to join the private group Facebook page for all Sisters of Belle Coeur. Additionally, all Belle Coeur sisters receive a monthly email newsletter with contributions of stories, prayers, wisdom, resources, and news from the sisters.
